The metamorphic patterns as well as the leaf nature of the outer envelope indicate that female cones of Ephedra are compound while the female reproductive units of the ovulate cone have been reduced from secondary reproductive shoots similar to those of cordaites by phylogenetic transformation, fusion and reduction. Each fertile bract together with its axillary female reproductive unit composed the Bract Scale and Seed Scale Complex of Ephedra .

Experimental results indicate that the reduction of chemical oxygen demand were 40%, 38%, 12%, 50%, and 73% for β-naphtho1, salt R, dihydroxy salt R, acid red, and wastewater, respectively when the reactions had run for 4 h at a pH of 1.7. In comparison, the COD reduction of-naphtho1 and salt R were 10.2% and 16.2%, lower than 23.4% and 18.1% with H2O2, while the Fenton reaction time was 1 h.

Taking Shewanella and Geobacter as examples, this paper reviewed three kinds of possible mechanisms of microbial enzyme-catalyzed dissimilatory Fe reduction and its molecular regulation, i.e., direct contact between microbial cell and Fe oxides, siderrophores, and electron shuttling compounds. Many membrane-bound cytochrome proteins are involved in the dissimilatory Fe reduction, forming a complicated regulation network.
