Character evidence in support of credibility is admissible under the rule only after the witness' character has first been attacked, as has been the case at common law.

根据此项规则，仅在证人的品格遭到第一次质疑以后，支持证人可靠性的品格证据才具有可采性。

The credibility of a witness may be attacked or supported by evidence in the form of opinion or reputation, but subject to these limitations:(1) the evidence may refer only to character for truthfulness or untruthfulness, and (2) evidence of truthful character is admissible only after the character of the witness for truthfulness has been attacked by opinion or reputation evidence or otherwise.
