A rational procedure is presented to solve finite element problem mixing nonlinear and elastoplastic materials. To avoid numerical problem, the incremental finite element analysis of geometrically altered structures is adopted, and a corresponding automatic finite element mesh strategy is proposed for simulating construction process of excavation.
