In order to investigate the capabilities of zircon as waste forms for immobilizing simulated trivalent actinides, trivalent europium (Eu3+) was used as the simulacrum for trivalent actinides, the waste forms containing 20 mol% Eu3+ were successfully synthesized by high temperature solid reaction and using ZrO2, SiO2 and Eu2O3 powders as starting materials.
