Generally,it is considered that cotton fibre is a column and its surface is smooth.The surface structure of Xinjiang long fine hair cotton is researched by using electronic microscope scanning (S-570 Japan).The result shows that the cotton fibre is not a column,but is spiral.The fibre of only 15%does not twist.The surface of the fibre is not smooth,and there are burrs on it.These characteristics would be another important factor effecting the stickability of cotton.

The emission of N_2 in discharge gap is detected using optical emission spectrophy. The discharge reactor was put in lightproof box to avoid the disturbance from outside lights. A small hole was drilled in one sidewall of the box, and the fibre was mounted coupling to the inlet (1mm) into the hole. A tube with the inner diameter of 1.1mm was set in the front of the hole. In this way, only the light from a certain direction emitted from the discharge reactor could transfer into the inlet through the tube.
