The traditional recording mode with paper and pencils cant satisfiy the precision and speed of the modern data collection. With the development of Embedded system technology and GPS technology, that portable device is used in foresty resource data collection is changing the tranditional mode. Meanwhile, portable device with wireless communication has been become the important instrument to get the published information when forestry GIS based on web is used to publish infomation and monitor resource.

随着嵌入式技术、GPS技术的发展，手持设备开始应用在野外调查数据采集中；同时，基于Web的林业GIS作为森林资源的动态监测和信息发布技术的日益成熟，具有无线通讯功能的手持设备逐渐成为获得发布信息的移动客户端。
