By the early 1950s, with most fighters equipped with either refueling receptacles or probes, the first large-scale overseas deployments began. In July 1952, KB-29s supported the deployment of fifty-eight F-84Gs of the 31st Fighter Escort Wing from Turner AFB, Georgia, to bases in Japan. Three months later, seventy-five F-84Gs flew from Bergstrom AFB in Texas to Misawa Air Base in Japan.
