Because diabetic neuropathy can be a painful condition that may be associated with nitric oxide, investigators tested a spray containing isosorbide dinitrate, a common NO donor used for heart patients, and found that it reduced overall neuropathic pain and burning with no effect on other symptoms.

Results: A 24-year-old woman suffered from acute painful sensation of both eyes after putting on contact lenses soaked in hydrogen peroxide care solution. Bilateral punctate corneal epithelial erosions were diagnosed. To relieve pain, she, by herself, applied topical 0.5% proparacaine eye drops to both eyes with increasing frequency to almost hourly. However, the pain was aggravated. On examination 2 days later, a large central disciform epithelial defect and diffuse edema of the residual epithelium were noted in both corneas. With the treatment using non-preserved artificial tears, the epithelial defects started to heal the next day and ring-shaped stromal cellular infiltrates were observed at the border of previous epithelial defects.

病例报告结果：一位24岁年轻女性因为配戴曾浸泡於含双氧保养液之隐形眼镜，造成双眼角膜点状上皮缺损，为了减少疼痛几乎每一小时双眼使用0.5%丙美卡因局部麻醉眼药水，然而疼痛恶化，并且在两天之后产生双眼角膜中央盘状上皮缺损，在使用不含防腐剂之人工泪液药水后，第二天表皮开始逐渐愈合，可以发现在原本上皮缺损边缘出现环状基质细胞浸润。

There were 42 patients with dorsoventral pain before the therapy. 27 patients(64.3%) got complete recover, 12 ( 28.6%)pain remission, and 3(7.1%) ineffective. The analgesic effective rate was 92.9%.

42例治疗前伴腹背部疼痛，完全消失27例（64.3%），疼痛缓解12例（28.6%），3例无效（7.1%），止痛有效率为92.9%。

On admission, he was alert and fully oriented. His temperature was 38°C, pulse was regular (90/min), blood pressure was 150/80mmHg. His speech was severely dysarthric but he could name, repeat, read, and follow instructions. His cranial nerves and fundoscopic examination were normal. His gait was wide based and unsteady. He had four sided mild weakness, which was prominent on the right.
