Fill a clean, dry and accurately weighed pycnometer with the substance being examined (keep the temperature below 20°C or that specified under individual monograph), fix the thermometer (no air bubble is left in the pycnometer). Place the pycnometer in a water bath maintained at 20°C or the specified temperature, allow to stand in the water bath for several minutes, so as to raise the temperature of the content to 20°C or to the temperature specified in the monograph.

取洁净、干燥并精密称定重量的比重瓶，装满供试品（温度应低于20°C或各品种项下规定的温度）后，装上温度计，置20°C（或各品种项下规定的温度）的水浴中放置若干分钟，使内容物的温度达到20°C（或各品种项下规定的温度），用滤纸除去溢出侧管的液体立即盖上罩。
