The results indicated that an increase in BP, HR and the pressor response induced by the dPAG stmulation was caused by physostigmine microinjection without DKJ-21 pretreatment and no any change of BP and HR was observed after physostigmine administration with the pretreatment of DKJ-21. These results suggested that the location of central cholinergic system associated with the mechanism of the incidence of hypertension are mainly locate on the rVLM.

On the normotensive rat, pretreatment with verapamil (0.25 ug/0.1 ul/site), the blocker of calcium channels, by microinjection into the rVLM bilaterally, not only caused a complete block effect on the elevation of BP, HR and the pressor response to defense stimulation by the subsequent microinjection of physostigmine, glucocorticoid or mineralocorticoid (the same dosage as mentioned above) into the same sites, but also led to a slight reduction on the basal cardiovascular activities to a certain extent.
