当普通光通过一个偏振的透镜或尼科尔棱镜(nicol prism)时,一部分光就被挡住了,只有振动方向与棱镜晶轴平行的光才能通过. 这种只在一个平面上振动的光称为平面偏振光,简称偏振光. 偏振光的振动面化学上习惯称为偏振面.
