阈强度刺激称为阈刺激(threshold stimulus)或最小(极小)刺激(minimal stimulus),对这种刺激的反应称最小反应. 刺激阈值或其倒数被用作表示兴奋性的尺度. 比它弱的刺激不产生反应,称之为阈下刺激(subthresbold stimulus)或最小值以下刺激(subminimal stimulus).
