When I first came to Xiamen, a southern coastal city, everything struck me as new: the very big subtropical trees with full blossoms and fruits, and also in striking colors. For example, the tall palm, the captivating silk cotton, the flamboyant flame tree with full-blown flowers, the colorful bougainvilleas, the brilliant Chinese redbud, and also many other unknown plants—they are all so bright and attractive. The scene is unimaginable in North China.
