Eckenwalder Lab, Department of Botany is primarily dedicated to research in woody plants including biosystematics, chemotaxonomy, numerical taxonomy and morphometrics, paleobotany, and cladistics, accommodation of hybridization in phylogenetic analysis, biogeography, systematics and reproductive biology of convolvulaceae.

Malloch Lab of Mycology is primarily dedicated to research in mycology including diversity and distribution of ascomycetes in soil, taxonomy and distribution of lichens, ecology of fungi in stored grains, taxonomy of crustose lichens, taxonomy of penicillium subgenus penicillium, population dynamics of indoor penicillium species, moulds, fungi in caves, population dynamics of indoor penicillium species.

In order to provide more information for the further taxonomic studies on Sterculiaceae, three problems are carefully analyzed here, which are (1) the taxonomic position and systematic relations of the family,(2) the taxonomic position and relationships of some genera in this family, and (3) the application of some new taxonomic characteristics to the classification of the family.
