ABSTRACTS In this thesis the diagnostic expert system theory and methodology are studied, with the emphasis on the fuzzy knowledge representation, uncertain reasoning and diagnostic knowledge acquisition. The applications of neural networks in the fault diagnosis for rotating machinery are also studied. A fuzzy diagnostic expert system for turbocompressor called ETHYLENE is implemented.
