In order to obtain the reliable and accurate headway distance data, a state space model for distance data filter is established and then a new data fusion and estimation algorithm based on Kalman filter principle is developed. Its recursion formula is obtained. Taking the distance measurements of machine vision and laser radar as inputs, this fusion and estimation algorithm can output more reliable and accurate fusion data in real time.
