The oxidation kinetics of depleted uranium was studied in pure oxygen pressure of 5 kPa at below 100°C by using spectroscopic ellipsometry. The relationship of the thickness of uranium oxide with time is measured. The results indicate that below 100°C in the initial period, the relationship between oxidation layer thickness and time is parabolic. The oxidation mechanism of depleted uranium is discussed and the active energy of depleted uranium at given experimental conditions is 87.165kJ/mol from calculation.

Some new results are obtained from the studies: 1 a novel thermokinetic research method, the characteristic reduced parameter method, has been proposed, and the kinetics of oxidation of benzoquinone by hydrogen peroxide has also been investigated with this method; 2 the kinetic mathematical models that the metallomicelles made from the mono-nuclear or dinuclear complexes and surfactants catalyze the phenolic derivant oxidation have been established respectively; 3 the feasibility and mechanism that the metallomicelle, a mimetic model of peroxidase, catalyzes the phenolic derivant oxidation has been discussed.

Extracts with higher antioxidant abilities, including hot water and ethanol extracts of Boehmeria nivea leaves and roots, were screened and then added into soy bean oil to study effects on oil stabilities of oxidation during storage and also to develop new XO paste products containing Boehmeria nivea leaves and roots. The extents of oil oxidation in XO paste were evaluated by measuring POV and TBA values. Results indicated that after 8 day storage at 70℃, the POV values of soy bean oil with addition of 0.1% of ethanol extracts of leaf and root were 56.27± 0.12 meq/kg and 57.13± 0.50 meq/kg respectively, which were both greater than that of control samples(53.33 ±0.31 meq/kg), showing that extracts of leaf and root do not have the abilities to inhibit oxidation of soy bean oil.
