Rev. Morrison received three years of British education on theology, philosophy, mathematics and Chinese. In January 1807, Rev. Morrsion went aboard "the Remittance" leaving the Great Britain on a mission to learn the Chinese language, edit the Chinese dictionary and translate the Bible."The Remittance" crossed the Atlantic and reached New York in May, where he connected via the Trident that sailed through the Cape of Good Hope in Africa and Indian Ocean. His arrival required a final leg that went through Singapore and the strait Sunda between the islands of Sumatra and Java towards the China Sea. All the routings and connections of the trip was a result of the East India Company's refusal to allow Rev.
