Based on the study of chronology and geochemistry of Cd in sediments of the Dongting lake area, we have established an ARIMA model of Cd and Cd/Ca in Quaternary and Holocene period respectively, and discussed Cd evolutionary regularity according to the fitted value and predicted value of the model The results revealed that the Cd evolution has remarkable periodicity of ecogeochemistry cycles, and is correlated with the climate change of alternative cold and warm Cd/Ca is changed with climate, from which the evolutionary history of regional ecogeochemistry can be inferred The changes of Cd and Cd/Ca are basically simultaneous, which showed that the change of Cd is mainly a natural evolution Cd in sediments will rise in the next 30 years and then tend to decrease From the regularity of ecogeochemistry indexes and global environment variation, it is concluded that the natural environment is the dominant factor affecting the Cd deposition

By comparison of long-term exposure with long-term immersion, the release amount of ammonium, nitrite, nitrate and dissolved phosphorus into the overlying waters from the sediments were increased during the reflooding after long-term dessication, reflecting that long-term exposure stimulated sediments as a releasing source of nutrient and accelerated the biogeochemical cycle of nutrient in the tidal flat ecosystem.

The exchange of substances between deposited sediments and overlying water must also pass through the DBL. In this study, two series of flume experiments with and without wind blowing conditions were conducted to study the salt release process from sandy sediments in a polder reservoir. The thickness of DBL was directly measured. The experimental salt fluxes through the DBL under the two wind conditions were inter-compared and compared with the estimations using the Fick's first law in an effort to explore the role of DBL in contact inhibition of salt release.

In the northeast part of the South China Sea the high salinity water comes from the Philippine Sea, therefore, biologic productivity was high and there was rich organic matter in sediments during the periods of oxygen-isotopes 2, 4 and 6. In these periods the sedimentation rate was very high, so there were very good material conditions for formation of gas hydrate. In addition, from the end of Miocene to present, the Philippine Sea plate collided with Asian plate in Taiwan area, extruding the northeast part of the South China Sea along northwest direction. The extruding force made fluid in the sediments very active, and this is very good for the formation of gas hydrate.
